No off licence for ten miles
I went home last weekend and it just happened my sister was home that weekend aswel. We decided to have a quiet night in, get a DVD and a take-away. When we were in our local town we thought it would be a good idea to get a few drinks to have with it. Recently the off licence closed down but as there is many grocery shops in the town like Centra, Mace and Spar we presumed that one of those shops would have a fridge especially for alcohol. The only shop who sold alcohol was Mace which sold wine, that we did not feel like. We thought about the nearest Off-licence and to our amazement the nearest was, not in the next two village's, but ten miles away in Carrick-On-Shannon. I drove home again and we had an alcohol free night. We thought it was very surprising why the Off-licence would close down as there is a lot of young people in my area.
My sister went travelling this year and she told me about 'drive through off-licences' that are very popular in Australia. This gave me an idea and I wondered why there aren't any in Ireland. Watch this space people.
